About the Book

You can’t escape the past…
With a violent psychopath on the loose, Detectives Daniels and Remalla must keep one eye over their shoulders and one on their current case. Despite the threat, they’ll hunt a powerful killer who leaves a symbolic mark on his victims, but what it means remains a mystery. When the clues left behind point to the next target, Remalla and Daniels must work against the clock to stop a murderer from striking again.

With no clues and a rising body count, the only person who may have the answers will be the last person they’ll want to interrogate. The repercussions could lead them to an assassin, but also create dangerous and far-reaching consequences.

Desperate to stop a killer hungry to prove his corruption and a psychopath eager for revenge, Daniels and Remalla will gamble that one way to stop a madman is to risk trusting another.

Of Power and Pain is book five in the Detectives Daniels and Remalla Series. It can be read on its own but follows the events of Of Mind and Madness and Lost Chances in the crossover series The Redstone Chronicles.

A page-turning thriller packed with heart-stopping suspense. Fans of Alexandria Clarke, Colleen Helme, Helen Pfifer and Willow Rose will cheer for Detectives Daniels and Remalla.

– The Prairies Book Review
Of Power and Pain by J.T. Bishop is complicated and enthralling. Different tales are intertwined without making me feel there are too many characters to remember. The story is fast-paced and kept me on the edge of my seat. I kept turning pages and could not put the book down. There were no dull moments and the story was full of action. There were so many different events that unfolded without losing the main thread of the story. The characters were perfectly described, and I could relate to them as each had a distinct background and personality. The story was unpredictable, well written, and managed to exceed my expectations, with nothing that I had anticipated, especially at the end.

This is a well-crafted crime thriller with characters that are elaborately written and utterly complex, starting with Oswald Fry, a character that instantly catches the attention of readers, not because of his hideous actions, but by the casualness with which he executes his actions and the excellent portrait the author makes of this character. Another character that readers will become curious about is Allison who is in prison and the unique effect she has on Rem. J. T. Bishop is a great storyteller whose books should sit comfortably on the shelves with the works of James Patterson and David Baldacci. The prose is excellent and the short chapters, enhanced by timely paragraph breaks, create an immersive reading experience while accentuating the suspense and the fast pacing. The pulsating action and the sparkling dialogues add depth to the deft plotting and augment the entertainment quality of this spellbinding tale. Of Power and Pain is a winner from a writer who deserves attention. The POV is perfectly rendered in the third person narrative, and the tale is, in turn, witty and suspenseful. This author knows how to build momentum in a story, intelligently melding suspense with action to keep readers turning the pages.
